Five Key Pieces for TRAVEL DAYS

I long for the days when travel was something you got dressed to the nines for.  Unfortunately in today's travel land I am used to seeing people in glorified pajamas at the airport (Old Navy pajama pants and velour track suits I'm looking at you).  Shame.  I am ALL about being comfortable on a travel day but wearing "house clothes" should not be acceptable.  Fortunately there is a way to be comfy AND chic - I have 5 key pieces to make you a gorgeous (cozy) travel ninja!

1.  BLACK LEGGINGS
Leggings are comfortable and chic and go well with almost anything.  They also work for all different sizes and shapes!  My favorites are by Juicy Couture.  You can also find affordable, high quality pairs at H & M and Forever 21

2.  OVERSIZED WHITE TEE:
Wearing a luxurious, soft, stretchy white tee on a travel day is both functional and fabulous.  The trick is to find one that fits well and hangs even better.  There are several cheaply made white tees out there but I urge you to spend a little more money on the perfect basic.  If you splurge a little on your basics, you won't have to keep buying them over and over! Lame!  The one pictured is from Urban Outfitters.  You can also find some great ones at Shopbop and American Apparel

3.  FLAT BOOTS
Tennis shoes and running shoes are made for the gym, not the airport.  A comfortable, flat boot looks fantastic and is functional for all the walking one does on a travel day.  If you want to be extra special you can wear a small heel but I prefer to have my feet on solid ground when I am fighting with my luggage.  Investing in a well made, leather boot will last forever and look better with age.  The ones pictured are made by my personal fave, Michael Kors.  You can also find some great ones at Nordstrom and Target.
4. FANCY SCARF:
Nothing makes me happier than a scarf.  I have quite a collection of my own and I use them constantly.  A scarf can pull your outfit together AND double as a cozy throw for those chilly plane rides.  Choose one in a fanciful print if you're feeling extra wild or stick with a neutral (black, white, camel, light pink) Scarves can be found almost anywhere but my favorites are from Forever 21, H & M, and Juicy Couture.  The one featured is from Tolani:
5.  LARGE TOTE:
If you're going to spend money on one thing it should be a bag.  A well made, supple, luxurious bag in a neutral can go from airport to dinner out to a weekend with friends.  It can carry all your essentials for travel days without looking like a nylon carry-on (blech) I could honestly write a 1000 page novel on several of my favorite bag designers but for this post I'll just give you a few:  Michael Kors (of course - my fave, the bag pictured is his handy work) L.A.M.B, Gucci, and Target (for those of you that can't stomach such a large price tag - I hear you!)
EXTRA TIPS:

1.  Make sure you stay well hydrated on travel days!  The recycled air on the plane as well as climate changes can wreak havoc on your skin.  I recommend traveling with a large bottle of electrolyte enhanced water.  You can also use a rich moisturizer under your make up.  I love the original Pond's dry skin cream - it leaves your skin soft and supple and makes you look like you just came from spa!  Heaven!

2.  Good music, US magazine, a wonderful novel or games on your ipad are both stimulating and pass the time brilliantly!  If you are traveling, why not use the time to enhance your brain and catch up on your celeb gossip!

3.  Travel is a wonderful opportunity to take a beauty nap.  A cozy, luxurious eye mask, noise canceling head phones and a soft, fluffy neck pillow can turn an uncomfortable airplane seat into your own private nap cocoon.  My favorite eye masks come from Bona Notti.  They are so comfy and come in a variety of fancy patterns.

So there you have it!  My essential list for looking and feeling your best on those looooong travel days!  Happy travels!
